Blossom Girls was founded in 2021 during the COVID lockdown in Victoria, Australia.
Janipher and Andreas’ nursing backgrounds helped them identify a need for demystifying perceptions and knowledge about starting menstruation (otherwise known as your period) and making sure young people were aware of the natural processes of their bodies.
It is hoped that this booklet gives young people the confidence to know more about the natural changes in their bodies: to feel safe in asking for information or assistance from people they trust; or to find out more from other reliable sources.
It may also be a handy resource for parents and carers to break the ice and debunk the myths of social and cultural taboos about menstruation.
Remember, you may not learn this stuff at school, so it’s ok to learn and talk about it at home before it actually happens. Nothing wrong with being prepared!
